National Brewery Museum & Library to Open June 19, 2008

The National Brewery Museum & Library located in Potosi Wisconsin will open on June 19th 2008 to coincide with the American Breweriana Association’s annual meeting in nearby Dubuque Iowa. It is expected that more than 500 ABA members from North America and Europe will be on hand to celebrate this long awaited event. The National Brewery Museum is a venue for ABA members and anyone interested in breweriana or the brewing industry to exhibit their prized artifacts for collectors and the public to enjoy. The facility will serve as a repository of U.S. brewery artifacts and history. The public is invited to Potosi to attend the June 19Th opening of the National Brewery Museum & Library and tour the facility.

The Potosi Brewery operated for over one hundred years to quench the thirst of the inhabitants of southwest Wisconsin and surrounding states until it closed in 1972. The building deteriorated for 26-years and was going to be torn down in 1998 when the building was purchased by a group of Potosi residents. In 2001, the Potosi Brewery Foundation was formed and took possession of the building and in less than 5 years transformed it into a magnificently restored 19th century brewery building with a 21st century interior that contains the National Brewery Museum & Library. Several significant collections of spectacular breweriana will be featured when it opens on June 19th 2008.

The almost seven million dollar Potosi Brewery Complex will once again be brewing beer. In addition to the microbrewery and National Brewery Museum & Library, the complex will also house the ABA Welcome Center, a fine dinning restaurant, the Great River Road interpretive center, Potosi Brewery transportation museum, gift shop, outdoor beer garden and outdoor stage for seasonal events. Adjacent to the brewery complex is the newly built Holiday Gardens Event Center.

All in all this is a potent combination of activities destined to be a great success in putting Potosi and the brewery back on the map as a desirable visitors destination drawing upon the large population within the tri-state area and across the country.
