Blazek Donates Potosi Neon To The ABA

Rockville, Wisconsin — Saturday, March 24, 2007.  Today the Directors of the American Breweriana Association (ABA) are pleased to inform its members of Blazek donation of Potosi neon sign to the ABA.

Dean and Polly Blazek of Pickerel, Wisconsin, have donated a historic outdoor porcelain and neon Potosi Beer advertising sign to the American Breweriana Association. The sign, which dates back to the middle 1950s, will be displayed as part of an exhibit at the National Brewery Museum in Potosi, Wisconsin.

Mr. Blazek has also volunteered to advise the museum board concerning future repairs and exhibits of neon beer advertising.

The Blazeks own and operate Northern Advertising near Antigo, Wisconsin. They along with their staff manufacture and repair neon signs. Dean is considered to be one of the premier experts in the neon industry. Dean also owns several hundred beer, automotive and oil related neon advertising signs.

Dean’s history in the beer and beer advertising business is a long one. His father was an agent for the Blatz Brewing Company in Antigo, Wisconsin, and distributed the company’s chewing gum, candy and soda water during prohibition. He distributed Blatz along with Kingsbury, Grain Belt, and Schoen’s once beer became legal again in 1932. Dean worked for his father delivering beer during the late 1940s. During the 1950s he found himself bending glass tubing for neon signs at the Everbrite Company in Milwaukee and as a painter for Artcraft, also in Milwaukee.

Dean was awarded the American Breweriana Association’s Historic Preservation Award in 2004. The award is given to individuals that preserve America’s brewing history.
