Museum of Beer and Brewing Sponsors Brewing History Exhibit at MSOE

The Museum of Beer and Brewing is proud to sponsor a reception at the Grohmann Museum, 1000 N. Broadway, Milwaukee Wisconsin, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. “The History of Brewing” depicted in 12 colorful mural sized paintings will be on display for the month of February. Originally commissioned by the Master Brewers Association of America 75 years ago and painted by Chicago artist Jean Allen, the paintings cover beer brewing as far back as 4200 B.C. in Babylon and trace the development of brewing techniques from the Ossetian Tribes, Africa and Egypt to medieval Germany to modern times.

After being unveiled at the 1935 Master Brewers Association convention, they were on display at the Museum of Science and Industry and the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago. When the Siebel Institute closed, the artwork was given to the Museum of Beer and Brewing in Milwaukee and is being preserved by the Grohmann Museum of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Grohmann Museum is home to the “Man at Work” collection, which comprises more than 800 paintings and sculptures dating from 1580.

The Museum of Beer and Brewing is dedicated to preserving and displaying the proud history of beer and brewing throughout the world and especially North America. It’s web site www.brewingmuseum.org features some of the history of brewing as well as currently scheduled events.

A short video about the exhibition is available here. For more information please contact Lorraine Hoffmann, President at 414-276-6190 or at lhoffco@gmail.com.
